PRITZKER, TAWANI ENTERPRISES, INC. EDWARD C. TRACY, TAWANI FOUNDATION, LISA MOELLER, USO OF ILLINOIS CHICAGO CHOSEN TO HOST THE PRESTIGIOUS 2009 CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR SOCIETY’S CONVENTION The Tawani Foundation and the USO of Illinois proudly announces the selection of Chicago as Host to the prestigious Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s Convention and Annual Meeting in September 2009. Chicago was in competition with three other cities located in California, Virginia and South Carolina. The Society Board was considering sites for both 2009 and 2010 conventions. Chicago was chosen as the host site on the merits of the presentation, the commitment of the proposed timeline to foster outreach to our JROTC contingent, the involvement of the USO of Illinois and for the significant initial financial commitment of sponsors to underwrite the projected $750,000 budget. Announcement will be web cast live at: www.pritzkermilitarylibrary.org. Mayor Richard Daley, Pat Quinn, Lt. Governor; Allen Lynch, Medal of Honor Recipient, J. N. Pritzker, President and CEO of Tawani Enterprises, President of Tawani Foundation and the Pritzker Military Library; Edward C. Tracy, Executive Director of the Tawani Foundation; Lisa Moeller, President, USO of Illinois. Other members of the Host Committee attending are: Victoria Dinges, McCormick Tribune Foundation, John Barron, Chicago Sun Times, Gary Johnson, Chicago History Museum, Rick Mills, Chicago JROTC with local military dignitaries, enlisted and retired; Junior ROTC participants and representatives of the USO of Illinois.The effort to bring the MOH Convention to Chicago has been led by the Tawani Foundation in association with the USO of Illinois, the Mayor’s Office of Special Events and with additional endorsements by the Chicago JROTC program, the McCormick Tribune Foundation, and the Chicago Sun Times, among others. Dates for the convention are tentatively set for September 15-19, 2009. The Congressional Medal of Honor was established by a joint resolution of Congress on July 12, 1862. The Medal of Honor is awarded in the name of Congress to a person who while a member of the armed services distinguishes him or herself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his/her life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States.The President in the name of Congress has awarded more than 3,400 Medals of Honor to our nation’s bravest soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and coast guardsmen. There are currently 110 living Medal of Honor recipients. The 2007 Convention will be held in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The 2008 Convention will be held in Denver, Colorado.
