The United States emerged from World War II at peak production capabilities. However, many European countries suffered massive manufacturing and agricultural devastation during the war. Although the United States government was hesitant to continue rationing, conservation was still encouraged in order to assist war-torn countries, and the Mason jar became ubiquitous. The image of the woman in this poster is used in the opening credits for the television show Desperate Housewives.
