The Pritzker Military Library has much to offer educators and students. Library staff can pull materials on a specific subject in advance of your visit for students’ browsing. All age groups are welcome, but the content is generally suited for grades 6 and up. Tours begin on the hour starting at 9:00 a.m. and go until 2:00 p.m. (6 slots), Tuesday through Friday. The Library can accommodate up to 60 students in a one-hour block. A chaperone is required for every ten students.

General tours last approximately 45 minutes, which includes the Citizen Soldier and Medal of Honor permanent exhibits, two rotating exhibits, and a selection of artifacts and rare books.

 

Tailored tours focus on a specific area of study, and students can view related items in our collection such as vintage posters, photographs, and artifacts. Sign up for the Civil War or World War II History Cart, where students can learn in-depth about the experiences of servicemen during those conflicts.

To schedule a visit, please submit an application by mail or fax at least 2 weeks prior to the desired date. You will be notified within three business days if your visit can be accommodated. If you need to cancel a tour, please let the Library know at least a week in advance.
 

Chicago Public School students and chaperones receive free admission; all other schools (elementary through high school) are charged $2.50 per person. Colleges and universities are in the Group Tour category; see above. Payment is required in advance.
