Theresa A.R. Embrey

Theresa A.R. Embrey (Teri) began her career with the Library as a Catalog Librarian. She is currently the department lead on library acquisitions and cataloging of materials, reference and reader services, and conservation and preservation of the Library’s historic collections. She also serves as a historian for the Library and its collections.

She has published and presented numerous articles on innovations in technology applicable to libraries and on historical topics ranging from the English Civil War to World War I. Her current research interests include the American Civil War and women and the military.

Teri is the recipient of the 2006 Illinois Library Association TBS, Inc. (Today’s Business Solutions) Technical Service Award and the 2006 Library Leadership Award from the Metropolitan Library System.

She graduated from Dominican University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and History in 1992 and a Masters in Library and Information Sciences in 1993. Additionally, she has post graduate studies in computer science from Roosevelt University and history from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is a Ph.D. candidate in American history/public history at Loyola University Chicago.

Her professional associations currently include the American Historical Association, the American Library Association, the Illinois Library Association, the Society for Military History, the Caxton Club of Chicago, and The Churchill Centre.
